It’s quite a wonderful feeling to move into a larger household. Perhaps you’re going from an apartment to a house as you move up wit your partner. Or maybe you’ve moved elsewhere, a little more rural, where you can find more for your money. Either way, having a couple more rooms to play with, more square footage, and a bigger garden (or a garden for the first time) can feel wonderful. Now is your time to nest and have fun with all that implies.
However, as we tend to adjust to the space we’re used to, it’s not uncommon to move into a new household only for it to feel sparse. You may have been given furniture by your loved ones, or have some temporary decorations to work with, but as functional space and utility goes, you may be wondering what options are best for you.
In this post, we’ll discuss a few ways you can more easily move into a larger house, and the means by which to fill that space.
A Lovely Dining Area
A dining area is a space that really does makes a house feel like a home, and if you’re in a bigger house, it’s nice to have this compared to a squashed table against a kitchen wall. You can start with a table that fits the room such as a White Color Dining table made from reliable materials. Having enough space for six or so people means you can host dinner parties or family gatherings. If needed you can also add a simple sideboard or buffet cabinet along one wall to store your nicer plates and glasses. This gives you storage and creates a focal point in the room, while also helping to fill some of the space.
Standing Plants
Big spaces need some vertical interest especially if your ceilings are higher (not a bad problem to have), and you’ll find that tall plants are perfect for this job. A fiddle leaf fig or bird of paradise are good options, because they can fill an empty corner beautifully without taking up much floor space or being too hard to take care of. The best part about plants is that they grow with you, so start with smaller ones if you’re unsure, and watch them fill the space over time. If you want to balance the aesthetic you can apply different heights together near windows or in corners of the room, Just remember to check the light requirements first. Snake plants and ZZ plants are pretty forgiving if you’re new to plant care, and they still add that lovely organic touch to your rooms.
Light Can Highlight & Cover Certain Open Areas
Good lighting makes any space feel more intentional and lived-i, and better yet, you can highlight and draw the eye away from areas. So Instead of relying on one central light fixture, you should layer your lighting at different heights with lamps and adjustable options. A floor lamp next to a reading chair, for instance, helps to create a cozy nook in what might otherwise feel like too much space
With this advice, you’ll be sure to fill a larger space with confidence.
