60s and 70s Fashion Trends Boomers Know Are Making a Comeback

Here are some of the fashion trends that have come back in recent years. Some have been reimagined and updated to suit modern tastes. However, most boomers and even Gen Xers know too well that they’re just comebacks.

Whether you love or hate them, it’s clear that fashion is cyclical, and what was once popular will eventually come back in style.

Believe it or not, shoulder pads have made a comeback in recent years. This trend that was wildly popular in the ’80s used to represent ‘power dressing.’ Today, designers have adapted shoulder pads into something more stylish and less scary than in the past. With everything from oversized blazers to structured dresses, shoulder pads are back and bolder than ever before.

Once considered an essential clothing item for sports players and bikers, bike shorts are now a fashion trend, as people like Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid wear them with blazers, sneakers, and crop tops. Amusing if you’re going to the gym or everyday errands, bike shorts are comfortable and functional. They may not be for everyone, but bike shorts have made a surprising return.

Tie-Dye

The tie-dyed style was a popular fashion trend in the 1960s and 1970s that was popularized by hippies and the free spirit style. Today, tie-dye is back, but not just for t-shirts. From maxi dresses to sneakers, a more creative and imaginative approach to tie-dye has surfaced. It is a vibrant look, perfect for summer, and it will draw attention to you.

Scrunchies

The scrunchie was created in the 1960s and faded from popularity in the early 2000s. Now, scrunchies seem completely to have resurged in the world of trends, and they’re more sought after than ever. Scrunchies come in a range of colors and styles, from velvet to silk.

Platform shoes were perceived as the pinnacle of fashion in the 1970s. They resurfaced in the fashion cycle again in the 1990s and early 2000s, only to fade away once more. Recently, platform shoes have come back, and they are again considered fashionable. They are made in so many heights and styles—chunky soles or thin and sleek.

Bell Bottoms

Bell bottoms were wide-legged pants that flared at the bottom and were popular fashions in the 1970s. Although they were out of fashion by the late 80s, bell bottoms have resurfaced lately, and many fashion fans have included them in their wardrobes.

Neon Colors

Neon colors were predominantly a trend during the 80s, being bright, bold, and eye-catching, but have since fallen out of style. Now, in recent years, they are back – surprisingly! Neon green, neon pink, and other exuberant neon colors are making a comeback in clothing, accessories, and even makeup.

Fanny Packs

Fanny packs were a major style in the 80s and an easy way to carry small items like wallets and keys. They faded away and were considered embarrassing to wear for some time. Recently, they have emerged again and, surprisingly, are fashionable. Fanny packs now come in lots of sizes, styles, and materials, accenting anybody’s outfit.

The era of sleek sneakers is long gone. Dad sneakers, or “chunky sneakers,” have made their mark and become a fashion favorite. They may not serve everyone’s style, yet they have proven popular amongst young people looking to make a statement.
